What is del.icio.us?

del.icio.us is a collection of favorites - yours and everyone else's. Use del.icio.us to:

  • Keep links to your favorite quotes, charts, product news, reports, and more on del.icio.us and access them from any computer on the web.
  • Share favorites with colleagues, brokers, firms, and other traders.
  • Discover new things. Everything on del.icio.us is someone's favorite - they've already done the work of finding it. Explore and enjoy.

What are tags?

Tags are one-word descriptors that you can assign to any favorite. Tags can't contain quotation marks or whitespace, but are otherwise unrestricted. You can assign as many tags to a favorite as you like, and rename, delete, add or merge tags together.

What are tags good for?

Tagging can be a whole lot easier and more flexible than fitting your information into preconceived categories. If you want to post an article about a Soybean quotes, just tag it with "soybean quotes" or whatever other tags you'd want to use to find it again. You don't have to rely on the designer of the system to provide you with category for Soybean quotes. You just make up tags as you need them.

That's great for organizing personal data, but it goes even further when someone else posts related content with the same tags. You begin building a collaborative repository of related information, driven by personal interests and creative organization. For instance, to view everybody's favorites on corn, visit del.icio.us/tag/corn.

Yeah but I still don't get it!

That's ok, you don't have to. It's pretty intuitive and takes a bit of practice to fully understand. Just try it and experiment a bit! Here's a basic how to that walks you through an example.

Navigate to a page that you want to bookmark using del.icio.us.  Click the add to my del.icio.us button.

The del.icio.us dialog pop's up and prepopulates the page title and URL.  You should fill in the tags field with keywords that desicribe this page.  For this example we're bookmarking the Corn Quotes page with tags like: corn, futures, quotes, CBOT, and Ag.  Then click Save.

Now you're ready to explore the social aspect of bookmarking! Navigate to del.icio.us. At the top of the page you can see all the items that yourself and other users have tagged as ag or other keywords.  On the left you can see all related terms to these tags.  You can also click on other users that have all saved this page and used the same keywords as you.

Click on other users who have saved this page allows you to see the posting history and explore other pages that these users have also  tagged as ag. The goal is to explore other users bookmarks with common interest as yourself.  The key is to explore! Advanced users can even subscribe to an RSS feed so that everytime a user adds links to their del.icio.us account you'll be notified.  The easiest way to find new ag (or other product info links!
